Opening of the DIGITAL LAB
You are cordially invited to the official opening of a new space at the UW History Faculty.
On 3 June 2024 (Monday) at 11.00 a.m., the authorities opf our Faculty will cut the ribbon of the newly renovated and well-equipped DIGITAL LAB room, located on level -1 in staircase A (entrance as to the Scarab).
The room is equipped with:
- four two-person workstations with desktop computers for graphic design, with monitors with improved colour reproduction quality
- one two-person workstation with a computer for projects in the MacOS environment
- one mobile digital microscope for palaeographic studies of manuscripts, including ancient papyri
- one laptop with high computing power and a high-quality screen for projects outside the Faculty building
- one mirrorless digital camera with Sigma lens for projects outside the Faculty building
- air-conditioning
In addition to this, we have purchased software licences, including for 3D object modelling and photogrammetry, Oxygen XML for editing projects in TEI XML and EpiDoc, Accordance Bible for corpus-based research in biblical studies and ancient Near Eastern history, and a Corel suite and software for statistics classes are coming soon.
The studio will serve our entire community.
The equipment for the Room was purchased from an IDUB New Directions grant to launch the History of Ancient Mediterranean Civilisations course, which includes a large block of digital humanities classes.
