Call for Applicants for the International Workshop: “From Dissertation to Book: Jewish Studies Publishing in East and East Central Europe,” which will take place at Central European University (Budapest campus) on March 4–6, 2026.
The Jewish Studies Program at Central European University (CEU) and The Leonid Nevzlin Research Center for Russian and East European Jewry at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, in cooperation with the Faculty of Arts, Charles University, Prague, and Central European University Press, welcome applications for the International Workshop “From Dissertation to Book: Jewish Studies Publishing in East and East Central Europe.”
This skills-oriented workshop, devoted to the enhancement of English-language academic publishing in the field of Jewish Studies, will take place at the Budapest campus of Central European University on March 4–6, 2026. Jewish Studies scholars and editors will work together with doctoral and post-doctoral students from the region to help them understand and negotiate the trans-local academic publishing cultures, focusing in particular on the process of turning a PhD dissertation into a first book. The workshop is open to students working on Jewish Studies topics who are in the final stages of doctoral studies at universities in East or East Central Europe or have submitted their PhD in the past five years.
To apply for the workshop, please send: (1) a short academic CV, (2) a motivation letter (200–300 words), (3) one recommendation letter, and (4) an academic writing sample in English of no more than 10 pages.
The organizers will cover lodging and meals in Budapest. Participants are expected to cover their own travel expenses to and from Budapest. All application materials must be received by the Nevzlin Center by November 21, 2025. Applicants will be informed of the selection committee’s decision by mid- December 2025.
