Conflicts over servitudes in Galicia in the second half of the 19th century. The Process of Purchase and Regulation of Servitudes in Central Galicia

Head: Ph.D. Joachim Popek

Within the framework of the competition of the National Science Centre – SONATINA 1, I am carrying out a research project entitled Conflicts over servitudes in Galicia in the second half of the 19th century. The process of buying out and regulating servitudes in Central Galicia. The main objective of the research is a comprehensive analysis of the problem of socio-economic conflicts over servitudes and the process of their regulation in Central Galicia in the second half of the 19th century. The project touches upon extremely important issues related to the difficult relations between the village and the manor, in particular the regulation of the serfs’ rights to collect firewood, building materials and forest litter from the manor’s forests, as well as to graze cattle on pastures.
