Professor Artur Markowski

Biography

Doctorate at the Faculty of History of the University of Warsaw in 2007, under the supervision of Prof. Jerzy Tomaszewski, habilitation in 2019 there; He is engaged in the social history of the 19th century, especially the history of Jews in the area of influence of the Russian Empire and the history of violence.
Since 2007 assistant, since 2009 assistant professor in the Department of Nineteenth-Century History. 2008-2010 Secretary of the Historical Institute of the University of Warsaw for didactic matters. Chief editor of the series: “Źródła do dziejów Żydów na ziemiach polskich w XIX i XX wieku (do 1939 r.). Published by the Historical Institute of the University of Warsaw and the POLIN Museum.
Holder of scholarships of, among others, “Polityka”, FNP, Lanckoroński Foundation, Polish Ministry of Science and Higher Education; research fellow at the University of Notre Dame 2012/2013; head of the research project dedicated to Jewish pogroms on Polish territory in the 19th and 20th centuries (2012-2017). He is a member of the editorial board of “Jewish History Quarterly” and a member of the board of “Almanach. Jewish Studies”.
