Important Changes to the Rules for Participation in NCN Competitions

We kindly inform you that the National Science Centre (NCN) has announced significant changes to the rules of participation in grant competitions. The new regulations are intended to adapt the competition system to the growing number of applications submitted and the limited funding available for research. The changes will be introduced in stages.

Most important planned changes:
From 2027

  • a person may act as project leader for only one application submitted to NCN calls for proposals in a calendar year.

From 2028

  • a project leader who has received at least two OPUS grants in the last 10 years will be able to submit a further application in this call, if they have previously submitted an application to the ERC programme, under rules similar to those currently applying in the MAESTRO call.

According to the NCN, the aim of the planned changes is to improve the efficiency of the competition process, maintain an appropriate success rate in the competitions, and encourage experienced researchers to apply more actively for research funding from European sources, in particular the European Research Council (ERC).

We encourage you to carefully plan your applications for the upcoming calls. If you have any questions or require advice on planning your applications for NCN and ERC calls, please don’t hesitate to contact us: badania.historia@uw.edu.pl
