Professor Andrzej Karpiński

Biography

Born on 18 09 1950 in Gliwice. He finished his studies in history at the Institute of History, University of Warsaw, in 1973. His doctoral dissertation, entitled “The poor inhabitants of Warsaw between 1526 and 1655”, written under the supervision of Prof. Maria Bogucka, was defended in 1978 at the Institute of History, Polish Academy of Sciences. In the same year he was awarded the degree of Doctor of Humanities. In 1996, on the basis of the thesis: “Woman in a Polish city in the second half of the 16th and 17th centuries”, he obtained the degree of doctor habilitated. Since 2002, titular professor. Since 1978 employed at the Institute of History of the Polish Academy of Sciences, since 1999 employed (on a first position) at the Institute of History of the University of Warsaw.
