PhD Gil Turingan
Biogram
Gil Turingan is a Filipino scholar and educator focusing on Southeast Asian history and politics. Currently a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the University of Warsaw, Poland, Gil is exploring the region’s intersections of history, politics, and social movements.
Gil is a newly-minted Ph.D. in Thai Studies from Chulalongkorn University, Thailand, where he conducted research on the discourse of Thai democracy and student movements and public monuments in Thailand, mainly focusing on the 1973 and 2020 protests.
Before his postdoctoral fellowship, Gil gained extensive experience as a licensed professional teacher in the Philippines and Thailand. He taught various subjects, including history, social sciences, and humanities.
Gil’s academic journey began at the University of the Philippines-Diliman, where he earned a Master’s degree in Asian Studies (2019), specializing in Southeast Asia, and a Bachelor of Arts in History (2010). He also completed a Professional Teaching Certification Program from the University of the Philippines-Open University (2014).
